More refreshing newness from Four Tet
Four Tet has completely embraced music sharing mindset and unleashed a string of tracks straight onto Soundcloud over the last year or so.
'128 Harps' is the latest and it's a real treat, combining stuttering post-dubstep dancefloor action with liquid harp melodies. It somehow manages to combine chin-stroking, laid-back folktronica with sublime rhythmic dynamism.
An indie music blog featuring forgotten songs, out-of-print classics, leaps in music and indie cover versions alongside new tracks and newer bands making new music. Sometimes it's new indie alternative music that sounds a bit like old indie alternative music. Indie music. Indie alternative mp3s. Indie mp3 downloads. Post Rock downloads. Shoegaze mp3s. #Bestof2011 - SBTRKT 'Heatwave (Live at Abbey Road)' (Young Turks)
Best album of 2011. Perfect hybrid of soul and machine.
SBTRKT's debut album is my album of the year, displaying an aptitude for mind bending beats, gorgeous sequencer lines, a bit of dubby space and warm, soulful vocals.
SBTRKT released a series of very tasty records, culminating in his debut album that didn't even contain all the best tracks. Check 'Living Like I Do' for more greatness.
This live version of album-opener 'Heatwave' takes the mix of flavours/flavas even further with some delicious, chunky, almost Post Rock drumming courtesy of the masked man himself. This makes the sparkling, airy sequencer lines shine even more.
Somewhere between dubstep, postrock, looped-up electronica and house - great stuff.
Having had an mp3 of this tune removed a couple of times by our friends at the DMCA, you'll have to enjoy this otherwise unavailable track via Youtube.

Advisory Circle Mixtape (November 2011)
Expansive mix from the man behind The Advisory Circle's haunted electronica.
Taking in library sounds, classic Techno, Radiophonic experiments and more besides, this is an intriguing mix that takes in Carl Craig (in his 69 guise), Jim O'Rourke, library guy Keith Mansfield, the timeshifted dubstep bleep of Holy Other and a host of other things I've never heard of.
'Everything is Neu' by Hatchback is a particular favourite, a rumbling synthetic hymn to the motorik beat. It builds beautifully to a euphoric splendour.
The mix opens with a track from the latest release in Ghost Box's Study Series. Entitled 'Autumnal Activities', it's Number 7 in the series of desirable 7"s and sees Pye Corner Audio in collaboration with The Advisory Circle. It's a sombre, gentle piece of public information film soundtracking, riven by the sounds of wind and the sound of a haunted oboe.
Available from the Ghost Box shop of course.

Radiohead - Jamie xx and SBTRKT remixes (XL, 2011)

More great remixes from Radiohead's 'TKOL RMX' project.
Following on from yesterday's archive Radiohead post - 'No Surprises' live acoustically from 2007 - today brings us bang up-to-date with some more remixes of tracks from 'The King Of Limbs'.
Jamie xx spins 'Bloom' into a spacious, angelic vignette.
Anstam's remix of 'Separator' is a clattering, dark synthed late night car ride, bordering on dubstep before breaking down into a clattering piece of broken beat-ery in the style of classic Warp like Autechre and Plaid.
SBTRKT's remix of 'Lotus Flower' opens with a twinkly riff before being consumed with slow, simple beats, Thom Yorke's vocals cocooned deep within. It bursts into some propulsive beats, getting a real groove on, conjuring images of Thom Yorke busting some frenetic moves like in that 'Lotus Flower' video.
There's also a live Radiohead DJ set streaming from The Boiler Room "around 8pm UK time" according to the official Radiohead website. Expect the Four Tet/Burial/Thom Yorke tracks to be in the mix.

Four Tet & Burial 'Moth' (Text, 2009)

Crafty slice of rhythmelodic electronica with dubstep undertones. Or is it dubstep with rhythmelodic overtones?
From the unmarked Text 12" that was snuck out to a scrum of interest prior to last year's Burial/Four Tet/Thom Yorke 12". I managed to get my hands on a copy thanks only to the benevolence of the Rough Trade West cru.
'Moth' is just a total genius record that's a perfect marriage of Burial's crunchy dubstep bleakbeats and Four Tet's crisp, flowing melodies.
Or is it a sublime confluence of Four Tet's crisp, dubstep loneliness and glitch with Burial's late-night angel vocal melody?
Who cares when a track is this good?

Goldie vs SBTRKT 'Inner City Life' (Bootleg, 2009)
Soulful, post-dubstep type re-rub of Goldie's drum'n'bass classic.
I'm a bit behind on my homework - this little gem was snuck out in 2009 before SBTRKT hit the post-dubstep news.
This is a lovely, rolling re-edit that respects its forebears while bringing the beats up-to-date, playing off dark drum and bass against SBTRKT's brighter flavours. It then drops out the vocal and moves into a passage of SBTRKT niceness with some twisty synth action. The vocals and shifting synth strings of the original are brought back and it develops into a fusion of the spirits of the old and new.
Very nice indeed.

New Music - Fall Creek Boys Choir (Bon Iver, James Blake) (2011)
On reflection, an obvious collaboration. The result, sweet Bon Iver vocals with lashings of sub-bass.
Meandering, gentle sweetness from the autotuned vocals of Bon Iver's Justin Vernon plus James Blake with stately piano and a metronomic patter. What sounds like the 'woof' sound on a cheap keyboard also makes an appearance. About time someone put that on a record.
The vocals and autotuned harmonies multiply, pitched against the pulses of sub-bass and eventually a proper martial drumbeat.
Overall, it's just what you'd expect from a collaboration between these two, but it's very good nonetheless.

Listening Post - SBTRKT 'SBTRKT' (Young Turks, 2011)
SBTRKT's album is shaping up to be one of my favourites of the year.
Spectacular shifts in mood, rhythm and melody. Great stuff, delivering on the promise of tracks like 'Heatwave' and 'Wildfire'.
If this isn't working, there are previews over at itunes too.

New Music - SBTRKT 'Wildfire (featuring Little Dragon)' (Young Turks, 2011) (mp3 download)
Moody, squelchy and somehow managing to spartan yet soulful. 'Wildfire' is from the upcoming SBTRKT album on the red hot Young Turks label and it promises great things.
Where the recently posted live session cut 'Heatwave' was a flurry of loops and live drumming, 'Wildfire' is taut and programmed, a more conventional song but betraying a fascinating approach to structure and space, building tension without using an ounce more sound than is necessary. Props to Little Dragon for the perfectly judged vocals.

Rough Trade is doing the album - out June 27th - with an exclusive bonus mix CD.

New Music - Four Tet, Burial and Thom Yorke 'Mirror' (Text Records, 2011)
The other track from the upcoming Four Tet, Burial and Thom Yorke 12", 'Mirror' is a more straight-ahead dubstep club groove with gentle mists of synth strings.
Thom Yorke's vocal is less mumbly and cryptic, upfront in the mix but with some sweet backing vocals adding colour. The track has a nice flow and would sound good accompanying a drive up the Westway late at night.

New Music - Burial, Four Tet and Radiohead's Thom Yorke 'Ego' (Text Records, 2011)
Going one better than the awesome Burial/Four Tet collaboration of 2009, this time they bring Radiohead's Thom Yorke into the mix.
Lovely, chunky, rolling post-dubstep beats and glitches, swirls of misty melody and a cramped Thom Yorke vocal.
The 12" seems to have sold-out immediately on pre-orders so download or Youtube looks like the best bet for now.
Try Bleep.com with your fingers crossed.
